Frequently asked questions

A list of questions and answers relating to a particular subject, especially one giving basic information for users of a website.

Lab grown diamonds or man made diamonds are diamonds that are grown in labs using advanced technologies that mimic the conditions under which diamonds naturally develop under the earth. They are physically, chemically and optically the same as natural diamonds. Think of lab grown diamonds as test tube babies – babies will be babies even if they are made in a lab, so aren't lab diamonds also diamonds.

Lab diamonds are not fake. Chemically, physically and optically, lab-grown diamonds are identical to natural ones. They are real diamonds with the same crystal structure and beautiful sparkle as natural diamonds. Lab grown diamonds also have the same Mohs hardness of 10. Any diamond is a diamond not because it is mined from the earth but because of the crystalline structure of carbon atoms.

There is no way of differentiating between a lab diamond and a natural diamond by looking at them. Even a trained jeweller with their naked eyes or with normal microscopes cannot tell the difference between natural and lab diamonds. Only advanced equipment and gemological labs can identify lab diamonds.

Lab diamonds are definitely worth something as these are also diamonds and will stand the test of time. Just as jewellers offer buyback on natural diamonds, you can get buyback on lab diamonds too. ISHIS offers an 80% buyback option on lab grown diamonds.

Yes. Lab created diamonds tend to retail at a 60-75% discount on equivalent quality natural diamonds. Lab grown diamonds are priced based on cut, colour, clarity and carat, just like mined diamonds.

Lab created diamonds are graded the same way as mined diamonds. They are certified by all the leading gemological labs such as IGI, GIA, SGL, EGL. All the lab grown diamonds used by ISHIS are graded and certified by renowned third party organisations.

Diamonds are the hardest material on earth. They rank at 10 on Mohs hardness. Lab grown diamonds as well as natural diamonds have this same rank of 10, which means they're extremely durable. Lab grown diamonds match their mined counterparts in hardness, strength and durability! Take comfort knowing lab grown diamonds are strong enough to hand down to the next generation.

No. Laboratory-grown diamonds do not fade, discolour or cloud over time. Their beauty is timeless.

No. A lot of people think that machines can be programmed to create a specific diamond grade and carat size but that's really not possible. Machines simply put the right conditions together but then nature takes it from there. Just like with earth-mined diamonds, there will be variances in colour, clarity and carat size in every piece.

Yes, lab diamonds are also characterised based on the 4Cs – Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat, just like natural diamonds.

Lab diamonds are not synthetic diamonds or Cubic Zirconia or Moissanite. CZ or Moissanite are diamond simulants and not diamonds. Lab diamonds on the other hand are real diamonds.

the first try, and provide measurements that are as accurate as
possible. But, due to the varying structural design a thick band, for
example, will feel much tighter than a thin band in the similar size.

Silver should be kept completely dry. Your silver jewellery should be kept away from excessive exposure to air and store is in a storage box lined with tarnish proof fabric- especially if your silver is used frequently. If your climate is humid, we recommend that you place a packet of desiccant crystals inside your storage area.

Daily exposure to dust, pollution, chemicals and other substances can dull your diamond's brilliance and sparkle. Soaking your diamond jewellery in a mild solution of water and a few drops of ammonia will suffice. For more extensive cleaning, give your jewellery an occasional scrub with a nonabrasive cleaner. Rinse and dry with a clean soft cloth.

  • Do not wear it when you're doing rough work. While diamonds may be the hardest substance on earth, they are not indestructible.
  • Don't let your diamond come in contact with chlorine bleach.
  • Do not store your diamond with other pieces of jewellery as they can cut or damage the other gems and metal.
